And now be this temple consecrated to the Eord, to His service and worship. Blessed be these walls that shall resound with the praise of the Lord! Blessed be the place from which the Gospel of Christ shall be preached! Blessed be the place, where the Lord through the Sacra­ ment of Baptism shall receive new members into His Kingdom! Blessed be the altar, where the incense of prayer shall be offered to the Lord, and where the body and blood of Jesus Christ, once offered for us, shall be distributed to His congregation! Blessed be the Student Center, where students may gather for study of the JFord, service to the Lord and fellow­ ship with the saints! Blessed be this house, that the turmoil and pollution of the world may be far removed, and that the congregation of the saints may here find shelter beneath the shadow of God’s wing! Amen! THE ORGAN The organ which has been installed in our new University Lutheran Chapel is an Allen Classic electronic organ. The Allen Classic is a fully transistorized unit which reproduces the tonal qualities of 17th and 18th Century European organs. It captures all the tonal qualities necessary for baroque and pre-baroque organ literature. These tonalities are produced in fine detail, with all the chiff, fringe effects, and wind transients which are inherent and clearly discernible in classic organs. The works of Buxtehude, Couperin, Sweelinck, and Johann Sebastian Bach gain a new reach of clarity when played on this most modern version of the time-honored classic organ. �The Service Oli Dedication October 10, 1965 THREE-THIRTY IN THE AFTERNOON THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE BUILDING The members and guests shall assemble at the entrance of the church in the following order: The Officiants, the Architect, the Builder, the Building Com­ mittee, the Officers of University Lutheran Church and the Congregation. THE INVOCATION In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. O, Eternal God, Who dwellest in the heavens and also with him who is of a hum­ ble and contrite spirit, we beseech Thee, graciously look upon us and let us enter this home with Thy blessing, through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord. Amen. The ribbon having been cut by the architect, the contractor will deliver the key of the new Chapel and Student Center to the chairman of the Building Committee, who will place the key into the lock. The Pastor will unlock the door and say: Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Whereas, by the grace of God, we arc permitted this day to dedicate this Chapel and Student Center, I herewith open the gates of this build­ ing for the preaching of the saving Word of God in accordance with the Confessions of our Church, for the administration and use of the Holy Sacraments according to the institution of our Lord Jesus Christ, and for offering to God's glorious majesty the sacrifice of prayer and thanks­ giving, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. The officiants, the officers, the Building Committee, the special guests, and the assembly shall now enter the chapel in orderly procession and be seated at the direction of the ushers. The officers, standing at the entrance to the Chan­ cel, shall give the Bible, holy vessels and service books to the Pastor who shall place them properly. �THE ORGAN PRELUDE THE RITE OF DEDICATION The Rev. Charles Born, Coordinator of Campus Work, for the Texas District, Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod We arc now ready to formally dedicate this University Lutheran Chapel and Student Center at Texas A&M University for the preaching of the Word of God at this campus, in accordance with the Confessions of our Lutheran Church, for the administration of the Holy Sacraments according to the institution of our Lord Jesus Christ and for offering to God’s glorious majesty the sacri­ fice of prayer and thanksgiving by word and deed. Pastor: We the members of University Lutheran Chapel and fellow Christ­ ians of The Texas District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, are assembled today to dedicate this new Chapel and Student Cen­ ter to the service of Christ and His Kingdom. Though God is not confined to a house which men have built, and everywhere man may worship Him in spirit and in truth, yet we solemnly dedicate this building to the worship of God and the exaltation of the liv­ ing Lord. People: The Lord bless our coming in and our going out from this time forth and even forevermore. Pastor: May this building ever serve to hold up the Cross of the crucified Christ as the only hope of this dying world. People: We dedicate this building to the edification of the young of this and coming generations that here they may study God’s Word, make confession in Christ, and be led* into the paths of purity and usefulness. Pastor: We dedicate this ALTAR as the table of our Lord, where we shall receive His body and blood in Holy Communion, before which our prayers and praises shall be offered, and where our newly confirmed and newly married will receive the Lord’s blessing. People: Lord, may Thy body and Thy blood be for our souls the highest good. May our prayers and praises come before Thee acceptably. Help us to give ourselves in complete dedication unto Thee. Pastor: We dedicate this PULPIT and LECTERN to the proclamation of Thy Law and Gospel to the university students in this com­ munity. People: Abide, 0 dearest Jesus, among us with Thy Word, and thus and now and hereafter true peace and joy afford. Pastor: We dedicate this BAPTISMAL FONT to the washing of regen­ eration and renewing of the Holy Ghost which our Lord grants us through Holy Baptism. People: Grant, O Lord, that all who are born again of water and of the Spirit may be preserved in true faith and godliness unto life eternal. Pastor: We dedicate this chapel as a quiet place of prayer and inspiration. �People: May we in this sacred place lift up holy hands without wrath or doubting, and may the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable unto Thee, O Lord. Pastor: We dedicate this ORGAN to the praise and glory of the Lord, our God. People: Sanctify the ministry of music among us, O Lord, that we may teach one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in our hearts unto the Lord. Pastor: We dedicate the STUDENT CENTER to the study of Thy Word, and as a place where our students may meet and carry on a pro­ gram of Christian knowledge and Christian service. People: Lord, may we ever grow in Thy grace and in the knowledge of Thy Truth. Pastor: We dedicate this STUDENT CENTER as a place where our stu­ dents may gather in a Christian atmosphere and foster Christian fellowship. People: May we ever cultivate the spirit of unity in the bond of peace. Pastor: Heavenly Father, we set aside this building as a place where sin­ ners may receive comfort and assurance, where men may be turned to repcntence and to faith in Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ Whom Thou hast sent, where Christian young men and women may be strengthened and encouraged, and where they may gather in Christian fellowship, where Thy praise may be chanted. Thy Kingdom extended, Thy glory revealed-and Thy power mani­ fested. People: We, the members of this student congregation and Christians of The Texas District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, dedi­ cate this University Lutheran Chapel and Student Center at Texas A&M in the name of the Holy Trinity.
